Presenter: James Scott, Lead Researcher, MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab
Successful technology initiatives depend on more than selecting the right tools. Long-term success requires people across the organization to understand, adopt, and consistently use new technologies. In this course, James Scott explores proven strategies for leading technology adoption within property management organizations.
You'll learn how to identify key stakeholders, build alignment across teams, and create communication strategies that encourage participation and reduce resistance to change. The course also examines how to design pilot programs, recruit internal champions, and implement role-specific training programs that support successful adoption across leasing, maintenance, accounting, ownership, and resident-facing teams.
In addition, you'll discover practical ways to measure adoption success using meaningful performance indicators such as user engagement, task completion rates, and operational efficiency improvements. By applying proven change management principles, you'll be better prepared to guide technology initiatives from implementation through long-term adoption.

James Scott serves as Lead Researcher for the MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab (REIL) and works with IREM® as Technology Innovator-in-Residence. REIL combines MIT's real estate expertise with innovation and technology research to advance the future of the real estate industry.
Among his work at REIL, Scott has led the development of a global database of real estate technology companies, identifying more than 1,800 organizations focused on real estate innovation. Through this research, he has gained extensive insight into emerging technologies and their impact on property operations, tenant experiences, and industry transformation.
As IREM’s Technology Innovator-in-Residence, Scott focuses on identifying technologies and innovations that can help real estate professionals operate more efficiently, strengthen competitive positioning, and better serve tenants and clients.
